Fun Fact: Marina Del Rey was the name of the dancer girlfriend of a southwestern Senator who held the deciding vote on the Congressional measure to approve Public Law 780, which completed the funding after the L.A. County Board of Supervisors approved a loan of 2 million, which only covered half the construction. Thinking the name meant "Little harbor of the king" President Eisenhower signed the bill and groundbreaking began in 1953.
